    Database Administrator - Barrie, Ontario

    The Royal Victoria Hospital is currently seeking a SQL and Oracle Database Adminstrator. The RVH is located in the city of Barrie which is within 45 minutes Toronto and surrounds the shores and beaches of Kempenfelt Bay, on beautiful Lake Simcoe. Barrie is home to many four-season activities and attractions and just a short drive away from some of the countries most sought after destinations including Algonquin Park, fabulous ski hills and the excitement of Toronto.

    POSITION: Full Time Database Administrator

    DEPARTMENT: Information Technology

    DIVISION: Corporate Services

    COMMENCEMENT DATE: July 2007

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Information Technology department at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario is currently seeking an SQL and Oracle Database Administrator (DBA). The DBA is responsible for design, creation and support of new and existing databases as well as documenting and reviewing specifications, troubleshooting issues and database maintenance and tuning.

    SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

    University degree / college diploma in computer studies or a related field required Minimum 3 5 years experience in database administration and design in a fast paced environment required Industry certification in database administration Experience with MS SQL Server, MS Access and Oracle Databases Knowledge of database architecture and tuning Strong team player and able to work independently Strong oral and written communications skills Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work Must have strong problem solving and analytical skills Demonstrated ability to analyze, troubleshot and resolve complex technical problems with explicit knowledge of testing strategies, test plans and execution Ability to identify and implement creative solutions, where appropriate Work in a proactive manner, making recommendations to improve systems Ability and experience demonstrated through positive performance appraisals, work history and excellent attendance records Experience with Meditech Client Server an asset General knowledge of hospital operations and healthcare administration requirements an asset Knowledge of HL7 message structures, data definitions and usage an asset Experience with Interface Engines an asset Experience with Ipeople Direct or Echo ODBC drivers an asset Experience with scripting tools such as Automate Pro and Script Mate / Script Link+ an asset Project management experience an asset

    Monitoring, Maintenance, Testing and Enhancement of existing SQL, Oracle and proprietary databases Logical and Physical database design, migration, analysis and testing Ensure data integrity by testing and validating database backups Evaluate needs of users to resolve issues and properly plan data flows for new or revised databases Design and creation of SQL and Oracle databases to be used by custom applications. Provide SQL and Oracle support to developers and report writers Develop SQL scripts for security administration, database objects such as functions, triggers, procedures and packages, application related tasks, etc Develop and manage security policies for SQL and Oracle databases Maintain current and complete documentation, including build design, backup and recovery strategy, maintenance strategy and security Working closely with RVH project managers, database programmers, IT / IM technical and applications teams Must be able to perform all essential duties of position description and function within the Health and Safety guidelines providing safe and supportive environment for all patients
